Halle Research and Teaching Grants


Global Perspectives on Race+, Ethnicity+, and Nation+

Global Perspectives on Race+, Ethnicity+, and Nation+” is a grant offered by the Halle Institute for Global Research. Full-time, continuing, regular faculty from any of Emory’s nine schools are eligible to apply as Primary Investigators for innovative research  projects from any disciplinary, interdisciplinary, or multi-disciplinary perspective. Student participation is encouraged but not required.

This grant supports research that examines race, ethnicity, and/or nationality as broadly conceived in any country outside the United States. Projects might include, but are not limited to, the interplay of race, ethnicity, and/or nationality on inequalities/inequities and the egalitarian movements they foster; imperialism and colonialism; ethnic conflict; community and coalition building, and race, ethnicity, and/or nationality with gender, sexuality, religion, education, labor, science, art, and/or health. Comparative projects that are primarily global and include some research in the United States will be considered. Outcomes may include publications, external funding, programmatic work, research capacity building, performance, exhibitions and/or other forms of research-based activity.

Global Atlanta Innovative Teaching (GAIT)

The Halle Institute for Global Research and Learning in partnership with the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence (CFDE) offers the Global Atlanta Innovative Teaching (GAIT) grants. Emory embraces its home campus in Atlanta as a gateway to the world. In keeping with that value, the purpose of the GAIT Grant is to foster the development of curriculum with international scope. 

These grants are open to full-time regular faculty and postdocs who are interested in using new pedagogies to put “domestic” and “international” issues into conversation by using Global Atlanta as a classroom. Grants are up to $3000 and applications can be submitted by individuals or by faculty-led teams.

University Research Committee (URC) & Halle Institute Grants

The Halle Institute for Global Research contributes meaningful funds to the URC to support international research projects.  At the discretion of the Halle Institute, grantees in any URC category whose proposal includes a significant international component may receive the extra designation of being a URC - Halle Institute Global Research Award.
