Statement of Solidarity and Support for Anti-Racist Global Research

Black Lives Matter. The murders of Ahmaud Arbery, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and too many others are part of our long histories of anti-Black racism and injustice throughout the Americas and around the globe. As the Director of the Halle Institute for Global Research, as a practicing teacher/researcher, and as a citizen, I am angered and saddened by deep-rooted and systemic oppression, prejudice, bigotry and hatred.

As the worldwide Black Lives Matter movement reveals racial injustices and xenophobia in many contexts, the Halle Institute is committed to supporting research and teaching that exposes societal racism. We are resolute in our belief that global research is critical in uncovering and helping to improve social, cultural, economic and political inequities. Global researchers from across Emory University have come together to create racial justice through research initiatives that focus on, and seek to end, the root causes of racism. The statements linked below are only a sample of those that show the commitment of scholars in their opposition to racism.
